Q: What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness where the subconscious mind is accessed while client is awake. Sort of like opening a trap door into the mind! Once that door is opened, the client's mind is open to receiving and accepting changes that the client has chosen. While in the hypnotic state, the client is completely relaxed and completely focused.
Q: Is it possible for my child / teen to get stuck in the hypnotic state? No. Hypnosis for kids and teens is like a very vivid daydream where everything unreal seems real. While some kids might enjoy this so much they may want to linger in the hypnotic state, they are always completely clear of it, feeling refreshed and relaxed at the end of every session.
Q: Can I be in the room with my child / teen during hypnosis? Yes. You will be part of the pre-hypnosis interview with your child and may stay during the actual induction or session itself. However, usually children are able to achieve a better, more effective state if you are not directly in the room. Parents find that after their initial observation they are very comfortable with returning to the waiting area during the actual sessions.
Q: How do I know if my child / teen can be hypnotized? If he or she wants to be hypnotized, they will be! Kids want change that's fast and easy. Once they learn what hypnosis can do for them (and what they can do for themselves) they can hardly wait to get started.
Q: How many sessions will my child / teen need?Hypnotherapy by its nature is very brief and kids see change starting right away. The amount of sessions varies with personality, the goal or goals you are working on, etc. Our aim is to achieve the level of change you are looking for in as few sessions as possible.
Q: Will my child / teen lose control or blurt out secrets? No. Most hypnosis myths are perpetuated by television shows and movies. Stage hypnosis is for entertainment and the people on the stage have an inner desire to act silly for the entertainment of others. This display of silliness is not part of what your child will be experiencing. Your child is fully capable of self control at all times.
Q: Will my child / teen be asleep during the session? In spite of the fact that hypnotists routinely use words like sleep, deep sleep, drifting off to sleep, etc., hypnosis is not about sleep at all.In fact, the client is quite awake. Very relaxed and very focused but not actually asleep.
Q. Can a child with Autism use hypnosis?Yes! High functioners on the spectrum aged 11 and up can enjoy Hypnotherapy and its benefits to elevate self esteem, get unstuck, gain social confidence and alter or improve coping behaviors.
